Participamos is the project on Participatory Democracy of the Left International Forum. (Vänsterns Internationella Forum, VIF). The project was initiated in 2004 and is expected to continue for several years and successively include and involve more people. The purpose is to provide a meeting place for discussions about the many interesting examples of participatory democracy that exists around the world, such as the participatory budget process in Brazil, movements in Venezuela, participatory planning processes in Kerala, India, and networks on the Philippines.
The first event within the framework of the project was the International Conference on Participatory Democracy held in Stockholm in 2004. The conference was followed by regional conferences in Caracas, Venezuela (2005), Manila, Philippines (2007), Diyarbakir, Turkey (2007) and Zagreb, Croatia (2007). Next conference is going to take place in South Africa in August 2008.
On the homepage you will find documentation from the conferences. You will also find a study manual on participatory democracy. The idea is that the documentation will inspire to discussions and experience sharing.
With the project on participatory democracy we want to gather people, political parties, movements and others who are interested in discussing and developing concretes examples of participatory democracy.

The Left International Forum arranges in autumn an international conference on women and participatory democracy. Women from our collaborative projects in 17 different countries in South and East, as well as leading international representatives of women's struggle within the social movement and the research will be invited.

 In the context of fluid global developments and both challenges and potentialities of mass democratic participatory politics in localized processes, the (South African Communist Party and the Left Party of Sweden (Vänsterpartiet) through the Left International Forum are engaged in a collaborative effort to host a Southern African conference on Participatory Democracy.

On November 24-25 Demokratska Misao (Democratic Thought Publishing House), Novi Plamen and the Left International Forum organize a South Eastern Europe Conference on Participatory Democracy and Workers Self-Management in Zagreb, Croatia. An open invitation to the conference can be found here.
